A project carried out with text, painting and video, Ketubah –family contracts provides catharsis and solutions to family problems. I sent a call for participation offering indispensable, albeit hypothetical, services: I would heal wounds, clear up misunderstandings, bring back the dead – essentially, fix any family problem. 17 people responded. Extensive interviews followed.
Ketubah- family contracts establishes written, “official” contracts between family members. They express, in the most concrete and legal terms, the emotional rights and obligations of each party in a tense, complicated or precarious (family) relationship. The contracts detail family history, betrayals, promises, and anecdotes. Although only one member of each relationship was interviewed, the contracts seek to reflect the needs of both.
