(For Custom Ketubot for marriage contracts: Ketubot by Brooke.)
The contracts drawn up from participants’ interviews from Ketubah – family contracts were converted into Ketubot. In the Jewish tradition, a ketubah is an illuminated marriage contract that states the economic rights and obligations of bride and groom. It casts a sobering light on the occasion, demonstrating that emotional bonds have practical implications. Yet the ketubah‘s elaborate designs intimate the joy and richness of such a bond. The combination of the colorful borders and legal text make the ketubah at once celebratory and serious, emotional and official.
In contrast to traditional ketubot, these ketubot are between family members with problematic relationships.
