50 x 60 cm, ink on paper, 2010.
This bride, who was very familiar with my art, trusted me completely and said, “Do whatever you want!” So I based the ketubah on what I knew about the couple: The bride’s decorative tastes tended toward organic motifs and colors. They live in a wooded area because they prefer a natural setting to the city. They were both very open and independent, and also wanted a traditional home together.
The tree commonly reflects the Tree of Life, and in this ketubah, where two trees form a canopy, it also represents the huppuh and home. Nestled in the tree is a nest and two birds to emphasize the theme of the home. The intertwining roots at the bottom symbolize their strength together. I used gold ink for the tree and branches, so it shined in different areas depending on the angle.
I opted for simple typography in Hebrew and English.
