History and Dreams
2011, 02:13, Stop Motion, PAL 4:3
This stop-motion animated video is part of the Language and Art workshop series. Three participants were asked to write a brief explanation of a relative to whom they feel identified – even if he/she is deceased; even if they have never met. In another session, they were asked to explain their hopes and dreams. The central themes in each written piece were related. We illustrated the stories, and the result is an audio-visual self-portrait for the three.
Music by El Petit de Cal Eril.
Whatever Be Your Goal
2011, 00:16, Stop Motion, PAL 4:3
This animated video was made with illustrations by participants of Language and Art, a workshop designed to teach young children a foreign language through art and poetry. The silly nature of the rhyme is memorable to them, and creating a visual project ensures that they retain the meaning and vocabulary.
“Document”
2009, 07:21 min, HDV, PAL 16:9
For Ketubah – family projects, I wrote and directed an experimental short titled “Document”. It is inspired by the ketubah signing ceremony in a wedding, which is performed before the wedding guests. Interpreting this idea as a type of “performance” of a couple’s love and commitment, I used a real participant’s contract as the basis for a script about two relatives’ commitment to improving their relationship. In “Document”, an older brother and younger sister go about their daily activities in their family home. With an omniscient television and radio as witnesses, they address each other with contractual clauses as if it were dialogue in order to resolve their tense and distant relationship.
