Brooke Borg is a New York born artist. In 2006 she bought a one-way ticket to Barcelona, where she began to attract attention as the young lead singer and only female in the ukulele band Els Sidrals, a group of middle-aged, ex-junkie, Hawaiian-shirt-wearing Catalans. After they disbanded in 2007, her fiery and humorous performances continued to energize and inspire audiences. This gregarious and whimsical nature is countered by the darkness often expressed in her visual art, which explores conflicts and boundaries in human relationships. This is most evident in her multi-media project Ketubah-family contracts, which earned her the 2009 Barcelona Producció Award. Yet all her work, which combines painting, text and performance, has a common mission. It is about overcoming obstacles, bridging gaps between people and cultures, and being fearlessly sincere about who we are.
