ABOUT

Brooke Borg is a New York born artist.  In 2006 she bought a one-way ticket to Barcelona, where she began to attract attention as the young lead singer and only female in the ukulele band Els Sidrals, a group of middle-aged, Hawaiian-shirt-wearing Catalans.  After they disbanded in 2007, her fiery and humorous performances continued to energize and inspire audiences.  This gregarious and whimsical nature is often countered by darkness expressed in her visual art, which explores conflicts and boundaries in human relationships.  This is most evident in her multi-media project Ketubah-family contracts, which earned her the 2009 Barcelona Producció Award.  In her never-ending quest to bridge gaps between individuals, age groups and cultures, her work often takes the form of dynamic, educational workshops that culminate in a collaborative artwork among her participants.  All of her pieces – text, video, painting or interactive – share a common goal.  They are about overcoming obstacles and being fearlessly sincere about who we are.
