Two drawing series that analyze and parody contemporary text-message courtship.
In the first, I've taken the now canonical "sext" selfie out of its colorful, glowing-screen context, and presented it in 5 large-scale, monochromatic pencil drawings. These are not classic nude drawings, but rather large-format renderings of small-scale digital images. As in the originals, identity is obscured and assets are exaggerated with the intention to seduce the recipient.
The second series consists of large-scale interpretations of text exchanges with individuals at varied stages of relationships. The exchanges, written out by hand in the same "speech-bubble" format of smart-phones, are the subtext of courtship dialogues - what is meant under the surface of face- and voiceless mobile phone communication.
